Yes, EV battery recycling is happening in facilities around the United States. Did the group propose recycling requirements? California is taking steps to change that.

Essentially, the materials recovered through battery recycling can replace future material supply that would otherwise need to be extracted from the earth to meet demand. Estimates show that in 2050, the United States can meet about half of EV demand for cobalt and nickel and a quarter of lithium with minerals recovered through recycling.

EV battery end of life bill life ended on Governor’s desk Due to the necessarily ambitious regulations we fought to pass, California will continue to see a huge increase in the number of EVs on the road. As these regulations drive down emissions, we will also see an increase in battery retirements.

On April 3, the Erie Times reported the International Recycling Group, Inc. has canceled plans for a $300 million chemical plastics recycling plant in Erie citing the President's tariffs and funding commitments issued by the US Department of Energy that failed to come through. Neither is burning plastic waste to make steel.
