Theres been a lot of talk about nuclearpower recently. Plant owners have been making plans to restart their retired nuclearpower plants, Google signed the first corporate deal to purchase energy from small modular nuclear reactors, and the US pledged to triple its nuclear generating capacity by 2050.
Even casual followers of energy and climate issues have probably heard about the alleged wonders of small modular nuclear reactors (SMRs). The failure of these projects to come in on time and under budget undermines arguments that modern nuclearpower plants can overcome the problems that have plagued the nuclear industry in the past.
Introduction One of the main messages coming out of the recent COP28 meetings in the UAE concerns the role that nuclearpower can play in the future of clean energy development around the world. The hope is that this encourages international financial institutions to include nuclear energy in loans for energy projects.
Taking advantage of new technologies will be essential if the world is to achieve its net-zero goals. Hari Chohan , nuclear radiation analyst, UK Atomic Energy Authority. While solar and wind energy might be the first clean-energy technologies that spring to mind, they are not the only low-carbon options.
This means that not only are huge quantities of heat and gas going to waste but people are paying a lot more on heating their homes than they would have been, were they insulated to a better standard. UK’s hugely inefficient housing stock means most homes and buildings do a very poor job of conserving heat. What happened to energy efficiency?
Waste Coal In July of 2021 a company by the name of Stronghold Digital Mining (Stronghold) filed an S-1 report with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) disclosing plans to purchase three waste coal fired power plants and install 57,000 Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs) dedicated to mining bitcoin.

That means much less waste and a better deal for the environment. These amazing facts really shouldn’t amaze us because we often see efficiency gains when we transition from one technology to another. Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFL) use about 70 percent less energy than incandescent bulbs, the oldest technology.
The IRA establishes a Clean Hydrogen Production Credit with four technology-neutral credit tiers based on the emissions rate of a hydrogen production process. The draft guidance avoids wasting billions of tax dollars on subsidies for dirty hydrogen production projects that would spike climate and health-harming pollution.”
House Hearing On Appliance Efficiency The House Consumer Protection, Technology & Utilities Committee is scheduled to hold a hearing November 14 on House Bill 1615 (O’Mara-D-Delaware) that would set energy and water conservation standards for commercial and residential appliances. The Regulation sets a deadline on the operation of final disposal facilities for radioactive waste. of the proposal) and for existing installation only until 2040 (see §4.28).
This will be the first time since 1882 that coal has not powered the UK. The future is in cleaner and flexible energy and investing in technologies like CCS, Renewables and hydrogen.” In Japan and Germany, coal power still accounts for 30% and 25% respectively of electricity generation.

OpenAI has secured a $12 billion, five-year contract with cloud computing provider CoreWeave to supply the necessary computing power for training and operating its AI models.
He says the old fission power model is out and a complete rework is on the way from, for example, TerraPower, a nuclear reactor design company developing a class of nuclear fast reactors called the traveling wave reactor. It uses depleted uranium as fuel and could reduce our 700,000 metric tons of nuclearwaste.
