On April 23, the Department of Environmental Protection announced the award of $2.9 Vehicles produce 47 percent of nitrogen oxides in the air, leading to the formation of ground-level ozone. These pollutants contribute to ground-level ozone, or smog, which EPA has shown has negative health impacts, including asthma attacks and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
