DEP: Diversified Production LLC Abandons Shale Gas Powered Cryptocurrency Facility In Elk County; 9 More Violations For Abandoned Shale Gas Wells This Week

On March 4, the Oil and Gas and Air Quality Programs of DEP did a joint inspection of a Diversified Production LLC cryptocurrency mining facility in Horton Township, Elk County and found it and two shale gas wells had been abandoned. Three generators used to power the cryptocurrency mining operation at the Langhorn shale gas pad had been removed. DEP said in its inspection reports the well abandonment violates an August 3, 2023 consent order and agreement with Diversified.
