At that time, scientists were not being held in high regard in many venues. NAEP was very concerned about how as an organization we were going to navigate this new paradigm of helping our members stay engaged and informed considering all of the changes and uncertainties.

Late last month, the Washington Legislature passed the “ Climate Commitment Act ”, a piece of sweeping climate legislation that includes, among other provisions, an economy-wide cap-and-trade system. Washington was not far behind Massachusetts, which enacted its “ next generation roadmap ” bill in late March. This friendly competition among states to move towards net zero economies as aggressively as possible is certainly a good thing.

The team hopes that the invention could reduce both the amount of packaging needed for pasta and the carbon emissions associated with cooking and transporting it.
