Earlier this month, the US Department of the Treasury and the Internal Revenue Service hosted a public hearing on their recent proposed rules governing implementation of the Section 45Y Clean Electricity Production Credit and the Section 48E Clean Electricity Investment Credit. My testimony is copied below.
But Nebraska has a unique approach to supplying electricity that provided a different pathway to climate action. Unlike any other state, Nebraska decided not to have private electric utilities. Instead, all of the state’s power comes from publicly owned utilities. During the 2010s, windpower went from 1% of generation to 20%.
We all know that to successfully address climate change we need to phase out fossil fuels and switch to electricpower. A s we transition our homes and vehicles to electricpower, it’s imperative that the electricity sector be clean. Take Action: Tell Ontario to phase out polluting gas power.
During the month of May, solar and windpower generated more electricity (30.6%) than fossil fuels (27.3%) in the European Union for the first time in history. The original article goes further, explaining that coal provided just a tenth of total electricity during the entire month, a mere 20 TWh.
By next year, Pennsylvania will get 50 percent of its electricity from ten new solar arrays around the Commonwealth – making Pennsylvania the first state in the country to commit to getting half of its energy from solar power. Click Here to learn more about Gov. Shapiro’s Energy/Climate Plan.
It is prompted in large part by low gas storage capacity, the COVID-19 pandemic, a power plant coming offline and low wind speeds responsible for a downturn in windpower output. UK’s hugely inefficient housing stock means most homes and buildings do a very poor job of conserving heat.
When the sun isn’t shining or the wind isn’t blowing, batteries help store clean energy to continue supplying electricity to the grid and to customers consistently and reliably. Energy from the sun and wind never runs out and is used again and again. Batteries are key to enabling the renewable energy transition.
An offshore wind farm in Europe. Colombia’s Caribbean coast has great potential for offshore windpower projects but is also home to protected areas of ecological importance. In 2021 alone, the global installed capacity of offshore wind plants tripled, reaching record figures, as 21.1 Photo credit: Tho Ge / Pixabay.
Two-way charging could give vehicles like these the potential to stabilise power supplies by discharging stored electricity back to the grid. Across 30 minutes, 50 electric vehicles (EVs) discharged almost one megawatt-hour into the grid – enough electricity to meet the needs of 133 households for a day.
Fossil gas, which is used for heating, electricity, and industrial processes, is responsible for one third of Ontario’s greenhouse gas emissions and is harmful to human health. These new gas plant projects are part of the province’s plan to expand the use of fossil gas to generate electricity for the province, but it comes at a high cost.
Alberta: Speak Up For a SAFE Climate: Take Action Here How Climate Action Makes Life More Affordable Renewable energy, including solar and windpower, is much cheaper and less polluting than burning fossil fuels such as natural gas, oil and coal. Previous Alberta governments provided a range of incentives.
On August 9, the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority announced it would be committing to the purchase of windpower and the use of clean energy to support the production and operations of water services. PWSA holds the largest share at 30% of the total, underlining our strong commitment to sustainable energy practices. “It

Predictability.
This is in contrast to traditional conservation movements that have often emphasised wild nature as separate from humanity. People and community will be just as important in addressing climate change as technologies such as windpower or electric cars but are rarely discussed in that way.
King Coal is still the first source of electricity , but this will be very temporary as wealthy nations are ditching it as fast as they can to the benefit or wind and solar. I wrote about it before, both solar photovoltaic and windpower are on exponential curves. These are good news for our climate and our common future.

Despite what some politicians are trying to make you think, wind and solar are still growing exponentially and are now unstoppable juggernauts. I previously noted that renewables are to become first global electricity source by 2025. ” according to Wikipedia ), the share of coal in the total electricity mix decreased by 3.7
Not anymore as the IEA now states that global renewable power capacity growth is set to double over the next five years. In other words, between now and 2027, we will collectively install as much windpower and solar pv capacity than we did in the past twenty years, or 2,400 GW.

Some have argued that weather-dependent energies would, paradoxically, make electricity even more reliable. 1] But recent power outages in Texas and California have poured cold water on these arguments. 1] But recent power outages in Texas and California have poured cold water on these arguments. But all else is not equal.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz (left) visits a hybrid power plant where “green” hydrogen is made using windpower and fed into the gas grid. It plays a smaller role in electricity generation yet has been called the bridge fuel to the age of renewables – a flexible power source needed to complement variable wind and solar power.
Yet Mainers are questioning whether to accept a new 145-mile electric transmission line that will bring hydropower from Quebec into the New England power grid, removing 3.0 Environmental groups are split: the Conservation Law Foundation supports it, but the Natural Resources Council of Maine opposes it.
On the other hand, the dramatic rise in renewable electricity generation, particularly windpower, has created a need for construction of new transmission lines to bring electricity to market. The New York Department of Environmental Conservation recently filed a petition in the U.S.
Most studies show that achieving these targets will require an unprecedented increase in wind and solar power to decarbonize the power sector and meet the increased demand for zero- carbon electricity to replace fossil fuels in building, industrial and transportation sectors. The Conservatives have governed the UK for the past 14 years as Labour was unseated after having won three successive elections, in the culmination of the global financial crisis. But if you were to do so, do it wisely and not in seats where Labour or Conservative are the only likely winners. Happy voting!
The National Development and Reform Commission’s Department of Resource Conservation and Environmental Protection said in a statement that energy intensity increased 9.5% It could then explore local heating systems, using waste heat from factories and power plants rather than building new boilers.
A central limitation is that these RECs must have as their source a renewable energy resource “located in or directly deliverable into zone J load zone,” the New York City area of the electricity grid. These limitations would require that some building energy improvements and emissions reductions actually take place. Conclusion .
Battery and Flywheel Energy Storage Projects : Unlike solar PV projects and power lines, battery and flywheel energy storage systems do not currently have their own categorical exclusions.
The Council’s release of the draft scoping plan represents a significant milestone in the state’s efforts to implement policies to reduce GHG emissions and achieve the 2040 zero GHG emission target that the CLCPA sets for the electricity-generating sector. The final plan must be sent to the Legislature by Jan.
For those unfamiliar with the program – RGGI is an interstate cap and trade program aimed at reducing CO 2 emissions from the electricpower sector. Most of the carbon allowances are auctioned and the proceeds of those auctions are typically used to promote energy conservation and renewable energy programs.
LA County can play an important role in addressing this paramount challenge of our time given that the Antelope Valley region happens to host one of the largest untapped concentrations of high-quality wind resources in all of California. billion gallons a year of fresh water.
In 2022, the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO)the entity that runs the electric grid for much of the Midwestrolled out a portfolio of transmission upgrades known as Tranche 1 of its Long Range Transmission Planning initiative (see here for a summary of Tranche 1 and state-specific run-downs for Illinois and Michigan ).

Thirty-six different power plants failed to deliver promised energy, and grid operator ISO-New England (ISO-NE) was forced to implement emergency operating procedures, stopping just a few steps short of asking the public to help by voluntarily cutting back on electricity use.
With the clean energy transition already under way, the US electricity mix is set to continue changing this year. Solar power is expected to make up about half of all additions of US electric generating capacity in 2023, according to data from the US Energy Information Administration (EIA). I’ll start off with the good.

Conserving resources is great but it can’t scale fast enough. Solar photovoltaic (PV) and windpower have become in recent years the cheapest sources of electricity and now account for 8 percent of global electricity. But how we use and generate electricity is far from being the only topic that needs our attention.
