There is no doubt that we have changed Earth’s climate through our activities on a broad range of aspects that includes consequences for the atmosphere, the oceans, snow, ice, Earth’s fauna and ecosystems. The cause of our changing climate is the increase in atmospheric greenhouse gas concentrations that we have released into the air.

It’s also urgent because the oceans act like a flywheel, making sure that cuts in emission of greenhouse gases will have a lagged effect on global warming. However, I would argue that the climate research community has not had a visible presence during any of these meetings. Nevertheless, it’s a key part for climate adaptation.

A friend asked me if a discussion paper published on Statistics Norway’s website, ‘ To what extent are temperature levels changing due to greenhouse gas emissions? ’, was purposely timed for the next climate summit ( COP28 ). Furthermore, the volume of the oceans increases from the melting of land ice.
