Happy EarthDay! I was only four years old when the first EarthDay took place. Some companies have co-opted the day to sell more “environmentally friendly” products , or worse, to provide polluters with an opportunity to greenwash their miserable track records. EarthDay didn’t come out of nowhere.
Leading up to EarthDay this year, I’ve been reflecting on the meaning and purpose of the annual celebration. EarthDay began under the Nixon Administration in 1970 as a day to support environmental protection and has grown to include nations and communities around the world in appreciation of Mother Earth.
Importantly, women and girls also bear the brunt of the effects of climatechange. Yet, women comprise a fraction of corporate leaders and investment, which does not make good business sense, said Joan Michelson, host of Electric Ladies Podcast and co-executive producer and emcee of The EarthDay Womens Summit.

Will we have made the necessary changes to reduce the adverse impacts from climatechange? Will we have restored biological diversity? And what about PFAS?
Data tells us that a key way of solving climatechange is to reduce pollution from our transportation systems. These need to stop if we are to slow and reverse climatechange. And now we are working to get more banned and the system fixed. This is hope for naturally abundant ecosystems instead of abundant plastic trash.
