Fossil fuel combustion produces carbon dioxide (CO2), the most abundant global warming pollutant, but also produces local pollutants such as fine particulate matter (PM2.5), nitrogen oxides (NOx), carbon monoxide (CO) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). which is formed in the atmosphere from precursor gases such as NOx.

This, along with many other chemicals, like diesel particulates and ground-level ozone that form soot and smog, and metals like lead in paint and drinking water, are regulated by the EPA to keep us safe. In addition, the EPA should revise or scrap the social cost of carbon (SCC), according to the Blueprint.
