The best solution: Replace fossil fuels with renewableenergy. Climate change is overwhelmingly caused by burning fossil fuels, and the most immediate path to avert climate disaster is to stop investing in those fuels and start powering our economy with an equitable transition to renewableenergy.
Every step of the petrochemical and plastics supply chain releases harmful pollutants - from extraction of fracked ethane gas used to make the building blocks of plastics to processing, production and transportation. Click Here for a video of the press conference. Click Here to sign the petition.
To begin with, there are the health benefits of the energy transition away from fossil fuels. As we clean up our energy system, we simultaneously reduce the tons of pollutants we now produce from burning coal, oil, and naturalgas. The disadvantaged bear the heaviest burden from airpollution today.
Fossil fuel plants — coal-fired power plants in particular — cause serious airpollution problems. The production and transportation of oil and gas also cause significant environmental impacts, as does the use of enormous amounts of water for cooling the generators. Rely only on indirect means of addressing the problem.
Since around 2008, naturalgas use has been the mirror image of coal use. Gas had long been more expensive and more volatile in price than coal. But the growth of f racking began in earnest around 2008, and it drove down the price of gas. Probably the most obvious cause was fracking.

On November 22, the Clean Air Council , PennFuture , and the Center for Biological Diversity announced they appealed an extension of Renovo Energy Center’s airpollution permit for a large gas-fired power plant — a significant source of new pollution within an environmental justice area.
Twelve percent of capacity comes from hydro, and an impressive 23% from renewables (10% wind, 9% solar). Naturalgas, oil, and nuclear are minor players. The national electricity plan projected that renewables will exceed coal in 2027. India then became more firmly committed to climate policy.
Shapiro made as Attorney General to advance commonsense measures that prioritize public health and safety and ensure the naturalgas industry is performing its work in line with the highest standards.
