Leading up to EarthDay this year, I’ve been reflecting on the meaning and purpose of the annual celebration. EarthDay began under the Nixon Administration in 1970 as a day to support environmental protection and has grown to include nations and communities around the world in appreciation of Mother Earth.

On April 22, EarthDay, the Washington State House will vote on the Climate Commitment Act ( SB 5126 ). This is the best climate legislation, with a chance of actually passing, that has yet been proposed in the United States. Washington has repeatedly embarrassed itself by failing to pass meaningful climate legislation.
