Fossil fuel plants — coal-fired power plants in particular — cause serious airpollution problems. The production and transportation of oil and gas also cause significant environmental impacts, as does the use of enormous amounts of water for cooling the generators.
That’s understandable in terms of India’s current carbonemissions, which are now only a quarter of China’s. Naturalgas, oil, and nuclear are minor players. Naturalgas, oil, and nuclear are minor players. But we need to be more forward-looking.
The uprates apply to existing naturalgas (1.978 GW), nuclear (496 MWe), coal and onshore wind resources. Of the new projects, half are gas (6.143 GW), five are batteries (2.275 GW) and one is nuclear (887MWe). The projects consist of 39 uprates and 12 new construction proposals. MW-Day For 2025/26 Delivery Compared To $28.92/MW-Day
The PUC does not have jurisdiction over naturalgas gathering pipelines and their associated compressor stations as well as well pad compressor stations. DEP issues air quality permits for compressor stations, well pad airpollution sources and other naturalgas infrastructure emissions.]

Limiting climate change will require the rapid reduction in these emissions from the vehicles we drive. Electric vehicles (EVs) can eliminate tailpipe emissions altogether and so are an attractive option for reducing both global-warming and smog-forming airpollution.
“ Natural” gas is not clean or green, as its misleading name implies Every reputable environmental organization and energy agency around the world is saying we can’t build new gas projects if we want to avoid complete climate chaos. Using gas appliances at home creates indoor airpollution and can lead to asthma in children.
Section 111 of the Clean Air Act constrains how EPA sets standards—but gives states wide latitude in implementation. Section 111 employs a two-phase process where, once EPA moves to regulate pollution from a new source—here, power plants—(111(b)), it is then required to regulate that pollution from existing sources, too (111(d)).
This is mainly a result of coal generation being replaced by naturalgas generation (and to a smaller extent renewable energy sources like wind and solar) and energy efficiency improvements, due in part to Act 129 [utility energy efficiency program]. Martina White (R-Philadelphia), adopted a final report on the best and safest way to increase the export Pennsylvania's naturalgas overseas. The minority report largely summarizes testimony presented to the Task Force about the only potential site for a naturalgas LNG plant identified so far and that is in Chester, Delaware County.
However, the availability of CCS is highly dependent on local topology, such as salt caverns available to sequester carbon and the availability of a pipeline infrastructure to transport carbonemissions from individual generating plants to CCS sites potentially hundreds of miles away. Friel-Otten, Rep. Abney Introduce Gov.
Take for example Ontario’s plans to expand gas infrastructure into rural and northern communities and build more gas plants. Instead of ramping up fossil gas (aka naturalgas) consumption, we need to bring it down. The gas subsidy alone amounts to $26,000 per home! Instead, electrify for about half the cost!
The legislation includes-- -- Impact Statements: House Bill 652 (Bullock-D-Philadelphia) requiring environmental impact reports on certain electric generation, waste management, sewage treatment and other facilities that are a major source of airpollution proposed in already burdened communities.
Summary Of House Bill 2277 PRESS continues all of the successful elements of the Alternative Energy Portfolio Standards (AEPS) while making it more inclusive—adding nuclear power, next generation technologies like fusion, and clean forms of naturalgas for the first time.

Abney, and our legislative partners and co-sponsors for their support of this bold and forward-thinking plan.” Friel-Otten, Rep.
The decision to ditch coal was the biggest single action of its time to cut carbonemissions in North America. It also improved air quality and made smog days a thing of the past. That means carbonemissions from electricity in Ontario will be rising back up again after years of decline. Source: IESO [link].

The poll comes as Pennsylvania faces more strange and severe weather in the face of climate change in recent years including repeated “Heat Health Emergencies” in the Philadelphia area, longer and hotter summers leading to worse airpollution, floods causing major damage to cities and agriculture, and “bomb cyclones” bringing heavy storms.
Tom Wolf vetoed and disapproved Senate Concurrent Regulatory Review Resolution 1, which would have disabled the Commonwealth’s opportunity to enter the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) and effectively achieve climate goals and reduce carbonemissions. This is a plan that 72 percent of Pennsylvanians support.

Besides posing a threat to public health, gas stoves threaten the climate. All of the stoves in the Stanford study leaked methane, the primary component of naturalgas, and are merely the end point of a naturalgas network that leaks like a sieve. in just one day. Cutting the pipeline.
The elimination of coal-fired power plants and increased use of naturalgas in power generation has led to historic emissions and airpollutant reductions equaling $450 billion to $1.04 trillion in public health benefits for Pennsylvanians, according to a Marcellus Shale [Gas] Coalition analysis.
We've demonstrated this commitment through our Climate Pledge goal of reaching net-zero carbonemissions by 2040. Note: Vantage Data Centers has a goal of reaching net zero carbonemissions for scopes 1 and 2 by 2030.
