This fight by industry to delay, obstruct, and otherwise thwart stronger regulation has devastating consequences. The result of that is the erosion described above.

Currently, the operation of a hydrogen pipeline involves oversight by various federal agencies and a patchwork of federal statutes and regulations. Some have also suggested that facilities beginning construction before 2029 should be able to remain on annual matching for the life of the facility (also called “grandfathering”).
