Electric vehicle (EV) sales are increasing , and these vehicles are important to reduce fossil fuel use and airpollution. While the bill missed the First House deadline, we hope to see it reintroduced in 2026. Increasing sales means more EVs eventually reaching their end of useful life.
Production of the gift itself and packaging contribute to pollution, however, I wanted to better understand this “last-mile” delivery impact. How would that change if I hopped on the electric bus route at the end of my block? Would the footprint of my choices be greater if I shopped online versus driving to a local store?
According to the California Energy Commission, more than one in five of all new passenger cars and trucks sold in the state at the start of this year was a zero-emission vehicle, which includes plug-in hybrids, battery electric, or fuel cell electric vehicles. More than 16 percent of new cars sold this year are fully electric plug-ins.
Its a daily litany of spills, polluted water supplies, smell of natural gas in the air, noise, airpollution, explosions, landslides, truck traffic, radioactive waste, gas flares, erosion problems, dust, lights, road dumping waste, abandoned equipment and wells. Affected residents have been living on hauled water.
Over the past several years, the USPS worked to plan the replacement of its aging delivery truck fleet with a mix of both electric and combustion vehicles. If electric delivery vehicle deployment is maximized, this transition could have significant positive impacts on both air quality and the larger adoption of commercial electric vehicles.
DTE’s proposal, known as an integrated resource plan, describes how the utility intends to fulfill its customers’ electricity needs over the next 20 years. These types of long-term energy plans include forecasting the amount of electricity customers will need and examining different options for supporting that need.

To reach the state’s goals of 100% clean electricity and economy-wide carbon neutrality by 2045, the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) has been tasked with planning the clean electricity transition via its Integrated Resource Planning (IRP) process. But the turn is not yet over.
The $10 million grant will be utilized by PRT to replace four 40-foot diesel transit buses with electric buses. The grant will also support the purchase and installation of two electric chargers along with necessary infrastructure in the garage to which the buses would be assigned. As directed by a state law enacted in 2021, as HB 1286, the Colorado Health Department’s AirPollution Control Division developed the newly finalized standards. As part of its target methodology , the state determined about 40% of the 8,000 buildings covered under the program already meet standards for the 2026 target.

EPA’s latest proposed rule targeting NOx emissions from fossil-fueled electric generating units (EGUs) is a classic study of diminishing returns. The downwind air quality benefits are minimal. In 2020, sources in both the Cross-State AirPollution Rule (CSAPR) NOX annual program and the A(cid) R(ain) P(rogram) together emitted 0.78
Current estimates are that the law will impact over 10,000 companies, which will have to draft a report every two years, beginning January 1, 2026, and publish it on their own website. This bill captures more companies, with a lower revenue threshold of over $500 million instead of $1 billion.
California’s airpollution regulator, the Air Resources Board, is poised to adopt one of the most important steps that the state has ever taken to reduce exposure to airpollution and limit climate changing emissions. First is stricter smog-forming pollution rules for conventional cars.
The bill is sprawling, covering climate and energy topics as diverse as electric vehicles, building decarbonization, clean energy manufacturing and supply chains, agriculture, and greening the electricity system, all through a range of tax incentives and direct grants. Still, how does a local government tap in? Second, $11.97
California recently extended , for the second time, the operations of three gas plants to 2026. And all this polluting infrastructure has serious health and environmental implications for the surrounding communities. Most notable of these polluting emissions are nitrogen oxides (NOx).
By 2032, new light-duty vehicle climate emissions would decrease by nearly 50 percent (to 85 grams/mile) compared to existing standards that go through 2026. Air quality and public health But climate pollution isn’t the only thing coming out of tailpipes that’s harming us, and the impact of these tailpipe emissions isn’t equally shared.
cranks its air conditioners to get through historic high temperatures , the need for energy that slows, not hastens, climate change is more apparent than ever. Yet, in 2022, almost 40% of electricity in the US was generated by power plants fueled by natural gas. States remain widely varied on their reliance on gas for electricity.
Thanks largely to the Clean Air Act, new passenger vehicles are 98 to 99 percent cleaner than they were 60 years ago when it comes to most tailpipe pollutants, including hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and fine particulate matter. Even so, cars and trucks are still making us sick—and killing us.
The first was to reward the deployment of electric trucks—given that EPA has pushed its consideration of EVs in the greenhouse gas rule to next spring , this is not likely to be included in the final rule. EPA has proposed three different early credit programs.

SB 1020 signals the state’s continued prioritization of clean energy development, adding to the state’s existing goal for 100% clean electricity retail sale by 2045 by establishing interim clean energy targets of 90% of all retail electricity sales be renewable and zero-carbon by 2035 and 95% by 2040.

Senate passed compromised legislation that would make the largest federal investment-- $375 billion-- in climate change fighting strategies, including investments in renewable energy production, tax rebates for consumers for energy efficiency and electric vehicles and more. Republicans voted against the bill. The bill now moves to the U.S.

These rules must accelerate the ongoing transition towards electrification As my colleague recently wrote , this year has seen a continued rise in sales of electric vehicles, on pace for over a million fully electric vehicles sold this year in the US, indicating the transition to electrify the passenger car market is well underway.
An ambitious and achievable goal to electrify privately owned vehicles While complementary action to reduce car usage is necessary to address climate change, to the extent the United States continues to be reliant upon privately owned passenger cars and trucks, those miles must be electric, powered by an increasingly clean grid.

When the Biden Administration ramped up fuel efficiency requirements through 2026, ideologues such as the Heartland Institute and states like Texas were quick to wheel out this attack. No doubt the same attack will be made on the Administration ambitious proposed post-2026 standard. But the resemblance ends there.
