On April 24, 2025, DEP was notified of a spill at the Chabal 2 conventional oil well site in Upper Burrell Township, Westmoreland County owned by Dakota Oil & Gas Company. DEP also detected natural gas and crude oil odors at the site. Multiple violations were issued by DEP. A response to the violations was requested by May 13.
