Almost five years after publishing the first substantial revisions to its solid waste management regulations, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) published a new set of final revisions to the regulations, which became effective on July 22, 2023.

On April 13, 2023, the Commissioners of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) voted to approve a proposal that will accelerate the commercialization of fusion energy in the United States. All of the commercial nuclear reactors in service today are fission reactors, which are heavily regulated under 10 C.F.R.

The DEP Waste Management Program announced in DEP’s Regulatory Agenda it is developing proposed changes to the Coproduct Determination process under the Residual Waste Regulations that allow a material, that would otherwise be regulated as a waste, to be used as a commercial product without any restrictions or upfront review or approval by DEP.

AngloGold Ashanti responded that the mine would not damage water bodies and that the company would work with regulators to resume the project. An investigation by the non-profit news site CalMatters found that California send a large portion of its hazardous waste to facilities in other states that have weaker environmental rules.

On June 7, the Better Path Coalition reported the Department of Environmental Protection has removed the co-product category from its waste disposal reporting database for conventional oil and gas well owners, according to documents the Coalition received in response to a Right-To-Know request.
