A CERES of fortunate events…

Real Climate

The CERES estimates of the top-of-atmosphere radiative fluxes are available from 2001 to the present. 2021) also reported on a two decade estimate of Earthshine measurements which appear to confirm a small decrease in albedo (and decrease in reflected short wave (SW) radiation). A paper last year (Goode et al., It’s unlikely(?)

DEP Inspection Finds Two Repsol Oil & Gas Shale Gas Wells Venting Natural Gas To Atmosphere, Defective Well Casing/Cementing In Susquehanna County; Violations Continue From May 2017

PA Environment Daily

During an April 4 routine inspection, the Department of Environmental Protection found two Repsol Oil and Gas USA LLC shale gas wells in Apolacon Township, Susquehanna County venting natural gas to the atmosphere through the well annulus at the Kropp Well Pad. There are 12 shale gas wells producing natural gas on the Kropp Well Pad.

A distraction due to errors, misunderstanding and misguided Norwegian statistics

Real Climate

are used all over the world, based on calculations that quantify the effects of physical mechanisms and the way different parts of the atmosphere are connected to each other. The physics-based models describe how energy flows through the atmosphere and ocean, as well as how the forces from different air masses push against each other.

Invading black hole or neutron star caused star to explode, say astronomers

Physics World

Astronomers have speculated that if the compact object is close to its surviving companion star, it can spiral into the star’s atmosphere, eventually sinking to the companion’s core where it disrupts the star, causing it to go supernova prematurely. This means that it appeared sometime between 2005 and 2017. Anomalous sources.

Solar polarization paradox resolved at last

Physics World

The current polarization puzzle originated in 1996, when astrophysicists Jan Stenflo of ETH Zurich in Switzerland and Christoph Keller (then at the US National Solar Observatory in Arizona) used an instrument called ZIMPOL (Zurich Imaging Polarimeter) to study solar radiation at a wavelength of around 589nm. Antarctic extreme events: ‘All-time records are being shattered not from decades ago, but from the last few years and months’

Frontiers

For example, Antarctica acts to cool our planet by reflecting solar radiation back to space by virtue of the brightness of its snow surface. The danger is that the Antarctic sea ice is starting to behave like the Arctic, with sustained loss of ocean cover and consequent absorption of solar radiation.
