Under the Clean Air Act, EPA is required to review and revise standards for “hazardous air pollutants” (including ethylene oxide), every eight years. Prior to last week, regulations for commercial sterilizers had not been reviewed in nearly two decades and had been due for review in 2014.

From 2014 through 2017, more than half of all EVs sold in the US were purchased in California, but that fraction has now fallen to one third. More EV models are now available, from small cars to pickup trucks, meaning more buyers have an electric option that meets their needs. More widespread adoption of EVs across the US is also a factor.

Data on the major carbon producers’ emissions have been published since 2014. They obviously include climate change, but it also include health impacts from air pollution and water pollution. The database is transparent and available for all to see. The current carbon-based energy system has serious downsides.

The OVEC coal bailouts, which the PUCO approved in 2014, were set to expire in 2024 and only applied to utility customers who had a stake in OVEC. The subsidies insulate the utilities from the costs of expensive, uneconomic coal and provide a disincentive for them to invest in cheaper clean energy resources. But thanks to H.B.
