A brief history of the land carbon sink Every year, globally, land-based ecosystems remove roughly 30% of human emissions from the atmosphere, slowing both the accumulation of atmospheric CO2 and increases in global temperature. These same environmental changes can also increase carbon losses from land-based ecosystems.

Here are the news that caught my interest as the annual climate change conference, COP23, is currently taking place in Bonn, Germany. It is safe to write that since Hurricanes Maria and Irma and this year’s climate horror stories , climate change is not a distant threat anymore but a day-to-day reality.

The authors found that economy-wide emissions would be 33-40% below 2005 levels with the IRA. By 2035, those emissions reductions will be 43-45% below 2004 levels. In the power sector, by 2035, emissions will 66-87% below 2005 levels. These numbers may be a little confusing. Download as PDF

Climate change unquestionably delivered on its Danger Season promises this year, pushing the planet’s usual summer heat waves, hurricanes, and other climate hazards into new and dangerous territory. But a subset of Punta Gorda’s housing stock fared much better: homes that had been rebuilt after Hurricane Charley in 2004.
