The two industry-funded studies ( NERA 2008 and ACT Research 2022 ) claim much higher impact on sales than either the academic (RZW 2018) or government ( EPA 2021 ) studies. Four studies purporting to examine whether a pre-buy effect occurred on heavy-duty truck sales can’t agree on the magnitude or timing of any such effect.

None of that means climate change isn’t, and won’t continue to be, a factor in global health, particularly if action to prevent it also reduces air pollution, or removes other health stressors. Carbon emissions are thus following the same trajectory as other air pollutants.
